Applying a Colored Edges Effect

You can use the Colored Edges effect to trace the lines and details of people or objects in your images.

You can save your settings as a preset for future use.

To Apply a Colored Edges Effect:

  1. In Edit mode, in the Add group, select Special Effect.
  2. You can also access the Special Effects menu from the Filter drop-down menu or Filter toolbar.

  3. Click Colored Edges.
  4. On the Colored Edges panel, set the options as described below.
  5. Do one of the following:
    • Click Done to accept your changes and close the panel.
    • Click Cancel to discard your changes and close the panel.

Colored Edges Options

Intensity

Specifies the amount of color added to the edges within the image. The higher the setting, the thicker the color that is applied to the image.

Edge color

Specifies the color of the edges.

Edge detection

Specifies the edge detection algorithm. The algorithm controls the formula used to detect the edges and the direction of the edge indicators.

Blurring

Blurs the edges in the image. Check the Use blurring checkbox, and then choose a blur setting to determine how much blur is applied.

You can right-click a slider to reset to the default value.

You can use the Edit Brush to paint this effect onto specific areas of your image.

You can use the Gradient tool to transition this effect across specific areas of your image.

You can use the Radial Gradient tool to apply effects around, or directly to, a center point.
